Creating Your First Proposal
Creating a proposal in Nizam takes just a few minutes. Once created, you’ll use the document editor to add content, pricing, and signature sections before sending it to your client for review.
Before You Begin
Have ready:
- The client you’re creating the proposal for (they must exist in your client list)
- A proposal name (e.g., “Website Redesign Proposal” or “Q1 Marketing Services”)
- Optional: The project you’re proposing for (if you’ve already created one)
Creating a New Proposal
- Navigate to Proposals from the sidebar
- Click the New Proposal button
- A form will appear on the right side
Fill Out Proposal Details
Complete the form with your proposal information. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
Required Information
Proposal Name:
Give your proposal a descriptive name that helps you identify it later. This name is visible to you but can be different from what appears in the proposal document itself.
Examples:
- “Website Redesign Proposal - Acme Corp”
- “Annual Marketing Retainer”
- “Logo Design Package”
Client:
Select the client you’re sending this proposal to. Start typing to search for existing clients.
Can’t find your client? Click “Create New Client” in the dropdown to add them without leaving the proposal form.
Optional Information
Project:
If you’ve already created a project for this work, link it here. The dropdown shows only projects for the selected client.
You can also create a new project directly from the form if needed.
Template:
Start from a template to pre-populate your proposal with content, sections, and pricing. Select a template from the dropdown to use it as your starting point.
Skip templates if you want to build from scratch or if this is your first proposal (you probably don’t have templates yet).
Save Your Proposal
Click Create Proposal to save. The system will:
- Create the proposal in Draft status
- Open the proposal editor
- Let you start building content immediately
What Happens Next
After creating a proposal:
- You’re taken to the document editor
- The proposal is in Draft status (not sent to client yet)
- You can add sections, pricing, and content
- The proposal is saved automatically as you work
Starting with a Template vs. Blank
Start with a Template when:
- You have reusable proposal templates already created
- The proposal follows a standard format you use often
- You want to save time by starting with pre-built content
Start blank when:
- This is a unique, one-off proposal
- You want complete control from scratch
- You don’t have relevant templates yet
Don’t worry—you can always add content from templates later or duplicate an existing proposal if needed.
Pro Tips
✅ Use descriptive names: “Q1 2026 Social Media Management” is better than “Proposal 1”
✅ Link to projects: If you’ve discussed this work with the client and created a project, link it for better organization
✅ Start simple: For your first proposal, skip templates and experiment with the editor to learn how it works
✅ Client must exist first: Create the client record before making proposals. You’ll need their email address later for sending.
Common Questions
Can I save a draft and come back later?
Yes. Proposals are automatically saved as you work. Navigate away anytime and return later to continue editing.
Do I need to add all the content before clicking Create?
No. The initial form just creates the proposal record. All content (text, pricing, images) is added afterward in the document editor.
What if I chose the wrong client?
You can edit the proposal details later, but it’s easier to get it right initially. Take a moment to select the correct client before creating.
Can I create proposals from a client page?
Yes! Use Quick Actions from a client’s detail page to create a proposal with the client pre-selected.
What’s the difference between Name and the proposal title?
The Name is for your internal reference (appears in your proposal list). The actual proposal document can have different text in its title section.
After Creation: Next Steps
