Sorting and Viewing Your Client List
Your client list is your command center for managing all client relationships. Understanding how to sort, view, and navigate this list efficiently helps you stay organized and find what you need quickly.
The Client List Layout
The client list typically displays as a table with columns:
- Name: Client display name (with avatar/icon)
- Stage: Current pipeline stage (colored badge)
- Type: Individual or Business (badge with icon)
- Primary Contact: Name and email for the main contact
- Actions: Menu with options (edit, archive, delete, create invoice, etc.)
Click any client name to open their detail page.
Sorting Your List
Click column headers to sort the list by that column:
Sort by Name
- A to Z: Alphabetical by display name
- Z to A: Reverse alphabetical
When to use:
Finding a specific client when you know their name, or reviewing clients in alphabetical order.
Sort by Stage
- By stage order: Groups clients by pipeline stage in the order you’ve arranged your stages
- Reverse order: Flips the grouping
When to use:
Reviewing clients in your pipeline flow, focusing on specific stages.
Sort by Type
- Individual first, then Business
- Business first, then Individual
When to use:
Separating freelancers from companies for different approaches or campaigns.
Default Sort
Your list likely has a default sort order (often alphabetical by name). The system remembers your sort preference during your session but may reset to default when you return later.
How Sorting Works
Single column sorting:
Click a column header to sort by that column. Click again to reverse the sort order.
Sort indicators:
Look for arrows (↑ ↓) or highlights on column headers showing which column is sorted and in what direction.
Combining with filters:
Sorting applies to whatever clients are currently visible. If you’ve filtered to “Active Client” stage, sorting arranges only those filtered clients.
Pagination
[Screenshot: Pagination controls at bottom showing page numbers and navigation]
For workspaces with many clients, the list is paginated:
- See 25, 50, or 100 clients per page
- Navigation arrows to move between pages
- Page numbers to jump to specific pages
- “Items per page” selector to change how many show at once
Navigation options:
- Next/Previous arrows: Move one page at a time
- First/Last: Jump to the beginning or end
- Page numbers: Click a specific page directly
Tip: Increase items per page to reduce clicking, or keep it smaller for faster loading.
Table Columns and Information
Name Column
- Avatar or icon representing the client (initials or logo)
- Display name (full name for Individuals, company name for Businesses)
- Clickable to open client detail page
Stage Column
- Current pipeline stage as a colored badge
- Click the badge to update the stage inline (without opening the client)
- Color-coded for quick visual scanning
Type Column
- Badge indicating Individual or Business
- Icon representing the type (person for Individual, building for Business)
- Non-clickable (for display only)
Primary Contact Column
- Contact person’s name
- Email address
- For Individual clients, this duplicates the client name; for Business clients, shows the primary contact within the company
Actions Column
- Three-dot menu with actions like:
- Edit Client
- Create Invoice
- Create Proposal
- Create Project
- Archive
- Delete
Quick access to common actions without opening the detail page.
List vs. Card View
Some systems offer different view modes:
- Table/List View: Detailed columns with all information (default)
- Grid/Card View: Visual cards with less detail but easier scanning
- Compact View: More clients visible with minimal information
Check if your workspace offers view options and choose what works best for your workflow.
Empty State
When you have no clients (or all are filtered out), you’ll see an empty state:
- Message indicating no clients are found
- Button to create your first client
- Helpful tips for getting started
If you expect to see clients but don’t, check if filters are hiding them.
Customizing the List
Depending on your version:
- You may be able to hide/show columns
- Reorder columns by dragging
- Adjust column widths
- Change default sort order
Check for customization options (often a settings icon or column menu).
Navigating the List Efficiently

Best Practices
✅ Sort strategically for the task: Sort by stage when reviewing your pipeline, sort alphabetically when looking for specific clients.
✅ Use inline actions when possible: Update stages and create invoices from the list instead of opening each client if you’re doing bulk work.
✅ Adjust items per page for your workflow: Show more items if you’re scanning many clients, fewer if you’re focusing on detail.
✅ Combine sort with filters: Filter to a specific type or stage, then sort within those results.
✅ Refresh regularly: If you’re in a team workspace, refresh the page occasionally to see updates from other team members.
Bulk Actions
Currently, Nizam requires individual action on each client. You cannot:
- Select multiple clients and archive at once
- Bulk change pipeline stages
- Export only selected clients
Each client must be handled individually. However, inline actions (like stage updates from the list) make individual actions faster.
List Performance
For large client lists (hundreds of clients):
- Pagination keeps the list performing well
- Filtering reduces what’s displayed
- Sorting happens instantly
- Search filters in real-time
If you experience slowness, try reducing items per page or applying filters to narrow the view.
Common Questions
Can I change which columns appear?
This depends on your version. Look for column customization options in settings or a column menu.
Why doesn’t my sort preference save?
Some systems reset sort to default between sessions. Check if there’s a “Save Preferences” option.
Can I export my client list?
Look for an “Export” button on the client list page. You can typically export to CSV including currently visible (filtered) clients.
How do I select multiple clients?
Currently, multi-select isn’t available. Use filters to narrow to the clients you want to act on, then handle individually using inline actions.
Can I see archived clients in this list?
No. Archived clients are hidden from the main list. You’d need a specific “View Archived” option or filter to see them.
What if I have more than 1000 clients?
Pagination handles any number of clients. You’ll navigate through many pages, but search and filters become essential tools at that scale.
