Sharing Agreements with Public Links
Every agreement has a unique public URL that allows clients to view and sign without logging in. This link offers flexibility when email isn’t the preferred delivery method.
What Is a Public Agreement Link?
A public link is a secure, shareable URL that opens your agreement in the client’s browser.
Example format:
https://app.getnizam.com/p/agreements/abc123def456
What clients can do:
- View the full agreement
- Read terms and clauses
- Sign the agreement electronically
- Download a PDF copy (if enabled)
- See your branding and logo
What clients cannot do:
- Edit the agreement
- Access your Nizam account
- See other agreements or clients
Security:
The link uses a unique, hard-to-guess identifier. Anyone with the link can access it, so share carefully.
When to Use Public Links
Ideal for:
✅ Text or messaging apps: Send via SMS, WhatsApp, Slack, Teams
✅ Video call or in-person meetings: Share screen or send link while on call
✅ Your own email client: Draft custom email with pasted link
✅ Social media or chat: Direct messages on LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.
✅ Website or client portal: Embed link for download or review
✅ Backup method: Client lost original email, resend link manually
Not recommended for:
- Professional first-time delivery (use email for branded experience)
- When you want automated tracking and reminders
How to Get the Public Link
From Pending or Signed Agreements
Once finalized (status is Pending or Signed):
- Open the agreement
- Look for Copy Link, Public Link, or Share button
- Click to copy URL to clipboard
Confirmation appears: “Link copied to clipboard.”
From Draft Agreements
If agreement is still Draft, you must finalize it first to generate the public link.
Why?
Draft agreements can change. Public links are only available after finalization to ensure clients see the final version.
To finalize without email:
- Click Finalize (not Finalize and Email)
- Agreement status → Pending
- Public link becomes available
See Sending Agreements to Clients via Email for finalization details.
Sharing the Link
Copy-paste method (most common):
- Copy the public link
- Paste into your preferred communication channel (text, email, Slack, etc.)
- Add a message explaining what it is
Example text message:
“Hi Sarah, here’s the agreement we discussed. Please review and sign when ready: [link]”
Example Slack message:
“@john Agreement is ready for your review and signature: [link]”
Professional Messaging Tips
✅ Provide context: “Service agreement for the Q1 website project”
✅ Set expectations: “Please sign by Friday”
✅ Offer assistance: “Let me know if you have questions”
✅ Keep it brief: One or two sentences plus link
Avoid:
- Just dropping the link with no explanation
- Using URL shorteners (looks suspicious)
- Sharing in public channels where others can access
Link Expiration and Validity
Does the link expire?
Typically, no automatic expiration. The link remains valid until:
- Agreement is cancelled
- Agreement is deleted
- Agreement is recalled back to Draft
What happens after client signs?
Link still works, but clients see the signed version (read-only, no signature box). They can download PDF.
Accessing the Public Page
When clients click the link, they see:
- Agreement title and details
- Your business name and logo (if configured)
- Full agreement content (text, images, signature sections)
- Signature box (if Pending) or signed confirmation (if Signed)
- Download PDF button (if available)
No login required.
Client doesn’t need a Nizam account.
See What Clients See When Viewing Agreements for full UX details.
Security Considerations
Public links are secure but not private:
🔒 Uses unique IDs: Hard to guess or stumble upon
🔒 HTTPS encrypted: Data transmitted securely
⚠️ No password protection: Anyone with link can view
⚠️ Shareable: Client could forward link to others
Best practices for security:
✅ Share privately: Use direct messages, not public forums.
✅ Verify recipient: Double-check you’re messaging the right person.
✅ Monitor signatures: Watch for unexpected or unauthorized signatures.
✅ Cancel if compromised: If link is shared publicly by accident, recall or cancel the agreement.
For highly sensitive agreements:
Use email delivery instead, or request client signatures in person.
Using Links with Other Delivery Methods
Email + Link:
Email includes the public link automatically. But you can also copy and share it separately if needed (e.g., client lost the email).
Proposal + Link:
If agreement is linked to a proposal, proposal email includes both proposal and agreement links. You rarely need to share agreement link separately.
In-person + Link:
Present agreement during meeting, share link for client to sign later at their convenience.
Creative delivery:
Generate QR code from link, print on business card or flyer. Client scans and signs on their phone.
Recalling or Cancelling Agreements
What happens to the link?
If you recall (back to Draft):
- Link becomes inactive or shows “Under Revision”
- Client cannot access or sign
- You can edit and re-finalize
If you cancel (status → Cancelled):
- Link shows “This agreement has been cancelled”
- Client can view but cannot sign
- Agreement remains in cancelled state
See Managing Agreement Status Transitions.
Tracking Link Activity
Can you see when clients click the link?
Not always. Some systems log views or track engagement. Check your analytics or activity log if available.
How do you know if client received the link?
- Ask for confirmation (“Did you get the link?”)
- Wait for signature notification
- Follow up after a few days
Setting up reminders:
If client doesn’t sign, configure automatic reminders. See Setting Up Agreement Reminders.
Resending Links
Client lost the link:
- Open the agreement
- Copy public link again
- Resend via your preferred method
Email vs manual link:
- Resend via email (Resend Agreement action): Sends branded email with link
- Copy and paste: Quick manual method via text or chat
Both point to the same agreement—no duplicates created.
Embedding Links in Your Website or Portal
For advanced users:
You can embed public agreement links in:
- Your own client portals
- Custom dashboards
- Email newsletters (not recommended for security)
Example HTML:
<a href="https://app.getnizam.com/p/agreements/abc123" target="_blank">View Agreement</a>
Note: Only share publicly if agreement is non-sensitive and intended for broad distribution (e.g., general terms of service).
Best Practices
✅ Add context when sharing: Explain what the link is for.
✅ Use secure channels: WhatsApp, Signal, email—avoid public posts.
✅ Verify recipient: Confirm you’re messaging the correct client.
✅ Check link works: Click it yourself before sharing to ensure it loads.
✅ Set expectations: “Please sign by Friday” gives client a deadline.
✅ Follow up if no response: Gentle reminder after a few days.
✅ Monitor agreement status: Check if client has signed.
Common Questions
Can I customize the public link URL?
No, links are auto-generated with unique IDs for security.
Can I password-protect the link?
Not typically. Anyone with link can view. Use email delivery for additional tracking.
What if I accidentally shared the link publicly?
Recall or cancel the agreement immediately and create a new one.
Do links expire after a certain time?
Usually no automatic expiration, but you can cancel or recall to deactivate.
Can I see who clicked the link?
Depends on your system’s analytics. Check activity logs if available.
Can clients download the agreement from the public link?
Typically yes, once signed. Check your PDF settings.
What if client shares the link with someone else?
That person can view the agreement. Only the designated client should sign, enforced by legal name validation.
Can I revoke a link after sharing?
Recall the agreement (status back to Draft) or cancel it. Link becomes inactive.
